Cryogenic Testing Bench for Product Development

HINE, with its extensive knowledge in the field of cryotechnology, was instrumental in Endress + Hauser’s Flowtec project to test and optimize its Coriolis flowmeter for liquefied natural gas (LNG). Endress + Hauser Flowtec has various measuring instruments for determining the flow of fluids in its product portfolio. Among other applications, the Coriolis flowmeter was developed for use in LNG dispensers that meet the legal requirements. In order to examine and optimize the Coriolis flowmeter more precisely for use in cryogenic conditions, HINE was commissioned to develop and manufacture a testing bench. The modular testing bench is similar to an LNG fuel dispenser but features numerous points for measurement to meet the requirement of development. A variety of operating states can be implemented so that the Coriolis flowmeters can also be thoroughly examined under extreme conditions.

The program for controlling the testing bench and recording its measurement results was provided by HINE and was created within the programming environment called LabView by National Instruments. This enabled the various operating states required for the examination of the Coriolis flowmeters to be set and viewed in real-time. With the help of the program, the measurement data was also recorded and saved securely.

The Coriolis testing bench was operated jointly with Endress + Hauser Flowtec and HINE on the PanGas testing field in Dagmersellen. Liquid nitrogen was chosen as the model fluid, with which the cryogenic conditions for the tests were achieved. The nitrogen was supplied by PanGas.
